Mercedes Say leads grassroots efforts to protect the rights of May and Indigenous migrants in the U.S. and particularly on the east coast where she has worked with multiple Indigenous led organizations to respond to humanitarian issues faced by Maya migrants. Mercedes Say speaks fluent Kiche' Maya and Spanish and has trained to perform interpretation services for Maya migrants whose rights to due process are often violated in the migration process. Mercedes Say is also an fierce advocate for all Indigenous peoples and has worked collectively with organizations to submit reports and complaints to the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights and the UN Permanent Forum on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
